EasyJet has unveiled new flight routes to three exciting destinations, launching from its regional hub at London Southend Airport. The budget airline will commence services to Reus and Almeria in Spain and Malta starting in March 2025.
Almeria, a picturesque port city in Andalusia, is renowned for its stunning beaches and unique attractions. Playa de los Muertos, just a short drive from the city, is a popular spot for wedding photographers due to its breathtaking views and pristine sands.
The beach recently received a TripAdvisor Traveller’s Choice Award, with many visitors rating it five stars. With only 29 days of rain annually, Almeria offers ample opportunity for seaside enjoyment. The city also boasts notable landmarks like the Alcazaba, a historically significant Moorish fortress, and the Catedral de la Encarnacion, dating back to the 10th and 16th centuries.
The Alcazaba remains one of Spain’s most well-preserved Moorish forts, while the cathedral is known for its six towers and historical significance. Local dining options are also affordable, with pints costing around €3.50 (£3) and supermarket bottles priced at €0.67 (57p).
Flights to Almeria from London Southend will begin on April 1, 2025, operating twice a week through mid-June. Prices start at £53.
Reus, the birthplace of renowned Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí, will also see new flights starting April 1, 2025. The city is home to the Gaudí Centre, which celebrates the architect’s legacy through interactive exhibits. Flights to Reus will also run twice weekly until June 14, with fares starting at £22.
Malta, known for its picturesque lagoons, the island of Gozo, and the historic walled city of Valletta, will have flights from March 30, 2025. easyJet will offer four weekly flights to Malta, running through mid-June, with ticket prices starting at £41.
In addition to these new routes, passengers can now book flight-only tickets and easyJet holiday packages for existing destinations from London Southend. Previously, only package holidays were available for destinations like Gran Canaria, Tenerife, Dalaman, Antalya, Enfidha, Marrakech, and Pisa.
Ali Gayward, easyJet’s UK country manager, expressed enthusiasm about the new routes: “We are thrilled to launch ten new routes from our new base at London Southend Airport next spring. Having flown over seven million customers from this location since 2012, we look forward to welcoming even more travellers for both business and leisure.”
