Greek Island With 70 Beaches Experts Say You Should Visit Before It Gets Too Popular

Milos has been named the number one Greek island to visit before it becomes too popular, according to a new list from Condé Nast Traveller.

Greece is home to around 6,000 islands, and while some remain off the beaten path, others—like Milos—are rapidly rising in popularity.

Milos tops a new list of 34 Greek islands recommended for travel in 2025, as Condé Nast Traveller urges tourists to explore now before crowds descend.

Located in the Cyclades, Milos is the largest island in the group and currently has a population of approximately 5,000 residents.

The island saw a surge in visitor numbers in 2019—its busiest year to date—welcoming over 952,000 tourists by ferry and nearly 38,000 more by air.

By comparison, Mykonos, which has double the population of Milos, now attracts over a million tourists annually.

Travel experts have noted that Milos is following a similar trajectory, with tourist numbers steadily increasing year after year.

Adding to its rising profile is celebrity attention. In 2021, pop star Justin Bieber and his wife Hailey spent their summer holidays on the island.

Other famous names who have visited Milos in recent years include Goldie Hawn, Kurt Russell, and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.

Part of the island’s allure lies in its stunning natural beauty, featuring luxury villas and over 70 unique beaches.

Picturesque villages like Klima and Mandrakia have become popular among photographers and influencers alike for their charm and coastal views.

Beaches dominate the island’s attractions, making up nine of the top ten spots on TripAdvisor’s Milos listings.

Beyond its sandy shores, Milos offers visitors a glimpse into ancient history with landmarks such as its open-air Roman theater in the village of Tripiti.

The marble theater is one of the island’s most significant archaeological sites, offering sweeping views of the Aegean Sea and the harbour at Kilma.

Milos is also home to some of the world’s most important catacombs, further adding to its historical and cultural appeal.

This isn’t the first time Milos has earned global acclaim. In 2021, Travel + Leisure ranked it the best island on the planet.

That accolade came after readers were asked to rate island destinations worldwide, and Milos stood out for its “extraordinary tavernas and dozens of picturesque beaches.”

For travelers eager to escape the growing tourist crowds seen in Santorini and Mykonos, Milos offers a quieter alternative—at least for now.

British holidaymakers can reach Milos by flying to Athens, with budget carrier easyJet offering flights from just £26.99.

From Athens, visitors can catch a domestic flight to Milos, which takes approximately 40 minutes.

Alternatively, travelers can take a ferry, with journey times ranging from two to seven hours, depending on the route and stops.

Alongside Milos, Condé Nast Traveller has listed 33 other Greek islands to consider visiting in 2025 before they too become overcrowded.
