Two Irish hotels have earned the prestigious 5-star rating from Forbes’ Travel Guide, a global authority on luxury hospitality. The 2024 edition of the guide, which was released online today, features Adare Manor in Co. Limerick and Ashford Castle in Co. Mayo as the only two properties in Ireland to achieve the highest accolade.
Forbes Travel Guide evaluates hotels based on 900 standards, including design, dining, service, and well-being. The process is anonymous and paid for by Forbes.
Adare Manor is a luxurious hotel in Adare, County Limerick
Amanda Frasier, the President of Ratings for Forbes Travel Guide, stated that the increased demand for exciting travel experiences is reflected in the 5-star hotels. She said these hotels are delivering exceptional design, dining, and well-being services and reimagining the future of luxury. She also commended all the 2024 winners for their efforts in providing guests with a fresh and new experience.
Ashford Castle Hotel, Limerick
The Ashford hotel underwent a significant renovation in 2017, and it now offers 104 rooms, a golf course, a spa, and several dining options. Ashford Castle, located in Co. Mayo, is a stately property that dates back to the 13th century. It is renowned for its historic design and location in rolling green fields. The hotel features 83 rooms, a spa, a cinema, and various activities, such as falconry, fishing, and horse riding, that guests can enjoy during their stay.
Ashford Castle and The Balmoral are part of the Red Carnation Hotel Collection, a family-owned group of luxury boutique hotels.
Niall Rochford, the Managing Director at Ashford Castle, expressed his thoughts regarding the award. He stated that they aim to inspire and support each other while setting an example for the tourism industry. Additionally, they promote five-star hospitality in Ireland.

Six Irish hotels have been awarded a 4-star rating by Forbes, in addition to the two 5-star hotels. These include The Conrad and The Merrion, both located in Dublin, The Fitzwilliam Hotel in Dublin, InterContinental in Dublin, The K Club in Kildare, The Shelbourne Dublin, Autograph Collection, Trump International Golf Links & Hotel Doonbeg Co Clare and The Westbury in Dublin. The spa at Ashford Castle is the only Irish spa destination to have received a 5-star rating.
